Welsh 3000s 24hr Challenge

Trustpilot

Book Now

The Welsh 3000s Challenge is the ultimate 24-hour mountain challenge, ascending all of Wales' 15 peaks over 3,000ft, with over 4,200 metres of ascent across 46 brutal kilometres! We begin at the crack of dawn with an early early ascent & traverse of Crib Goch - a classic, exposed Grade 1 scramble - en route to the summit of Snowdon, before traversing the rocky Glyderau and remote Carneddau ranges in a seriously arduous but ultimately exhilarating mountain adventure.

Taking on the Welsh 3000s challenge requires a very high level of fitness, mental toughness and bags of determination. The stunning views and varied terrain all add to the enjoyment.

Dates & Prices

This is your opportunity to join a group (maximum of 12 people) on the UK's toughest 24 hour mountain challenge, guided by experienced Mountain Leaders. We run open events in the summer from late April to early September. Individuals or groups are welcome to join us. You can view available dates on the dropdown below, then select your ticket type.

Self-funding £225: You have two options:

  • Make full payment of £225 (option 1)
  • Pay a non-refundable deposit of £75 & pay your balance 60 days before the event (option 2)

Fundraising: Pay a non-refundable registration fee of £75 & choose to raise a minimum of £250 for our social mission and set up a fundraising page on our site (option 3)

Once you've booked, you'll receive an email acknowledging receipt of your booking and you'll receive a second email requiring you to complete our online UK Trip Booking & Medical Declaration Form, which must be completed by each participant before we can confirm your place. You'll also need to read and agree to our Participation Agreement & you'll be asked to sign to confirm this when you submit your medical details.

Participation Agreement

After we confirm your booking we'll send you full joining instructions, a training plan and a kit list. We can also provide advice on local accommodation and other activities.

Grade

EXTREME - the Welsh 3000s is the hardest mountain challenge that we offer. Serious training & preparation is required. The route crosses Grade 1 scrambling ground on Crib Goch and Tryfan, however bypass options are available.

Fundraise for us

Fundraising for us can make your bucket list adventure much more achieveable & make your dreams come true! With this option, you pay your non-refundable registration fee of £75 when booking 'Option 3 - Fundraising' from the options above to reserve your place. You're pledging to raise £250 for our social projects and this option means the balance of your adventure challenge cost is met through this minimum sponsorship.

Weather & terrain

The weather in the Welsh mountains is prone to change rapidly - it's essential that you're prepared & equipped for a range of mountain weather conditions including rain, wind and heat.

Your safety and wellbeing is our top priority at all times & our Leaders have sole authority to modify the itinerary at any time before & during the event if weather or ground conditions are unsafe.

In these circumstances, we'll make alternative arrangements to maintain the integrity of the event itinerary. For example, we won't cross Crib Goch in high winds but can ascend Snowdon via the Pyg Track instead.

Safety

Your safety is our top priority. Our activities are fully risk assessed and we hold Public Liability Insurance via Lockton LLP. Our leaders carry a mountain first aid kit, an emergency shelter, a fully charged mobile phone & spare battery, spare warm clothing & emergency food and we have two-way radio contact with all of our guides during the event.

Kit

A full kit list will be provided when you register for the Welsh 3000s Challenge. Good kit will make the difference between a brilliant mountain experience and an uncomfortable one. Footwear should be well worn in and you need to bring good quality waterproofs (jacket & trousers). We provide a range of discount codes for kit suppliers, including Montane & Cotswold Outdoor.

Welsh 3000s - Weather

Expand

Regardless of the time of year, we may experience cloud, rain, wind, sun and even snow. The temperatures will be much cooler higher on the mountain tops, so having layers that you can add to and take off will work. We will of course adjust walking plans to take intoconsideration any adverse conditions, otherwise we go out in ‘most’ weather conditions, hence having waterproof and warm kit will help us carry on with our plans. Your Mountain Leaders are experience and qualified to make appropriate decisions about group safety. They will carry necessary group and safety equipment and are certified in Outdoor Emergency First Aid.
