The Edale Skyline Challenge is the classic Peak District hillwalking adventure and takes place in the ‘Dark Peak’ part of the Peak District National Park. Starting & finishing in the village of Hope in the Hope Valley, we tackle several summits on a continuous circular walk surrounding the beautiful Vale of Edale, including Win Hill (462m), Lose Hill (476m), Mam Tor Height (517m), Kinder Scout Low (633m) and Grindslow Knoll Height (601m).

Edale Skyline Challenge

This is a challenging 32 kilometre (20 mile) route with over 1,000m of height gain and a target time of 10 hours. It requires a good level of fitness and lots of determination. The stunning views and varied terrain all add to the enjoyment.

This is also a great training walk for the National Three Peaks Challenge, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge or one of our international expeditions. You can view the 3D route map below.

Once you've booked, you’ll be sent joining instructions, a training plan and kit list. We can also provide advice on local accommodation and other activities.

Route Map & Altitude Profile

Is it suitable for me?

The Edale Skyline Challenge requires a good level of fitness and you must be able to walk for up to 10-hours over hilly ground. The route is not technical, but it is a tough walking challenge in terms of distance and time.

Weather & terrain

The terrain of the Edale Skyline challenge walk includes well-worn paths, boggy areas (particularly after rain), steep ascents and descents.  Poor weather makes the walk harder and it’s essential that participants have good footwear and adequate outdoor clothing to protect you from the elements. The weather on the Edale Skyline route can be unpredictable so be prepared for all conditions! You can check some local weather forecasts below. Peak District Mountain Forecast

Water on your walk

We recommend a Water-to-Go filter water bottle for this event - it saves you carrying extra weight on this long hill day and you can fill up safely and drink water from the streams on the route.

Payment options

We offer the opportunity to pay online or by bank transfer (we'll email you an invoice), or you have the option to raise funds for our social mission.

Each participant also needs to read and agree to our UK Trips Booking Terms & Conditions and our Participation Agreement (you’ll be asked to confirm this during the booking process online when selecting your ticket type).

With the fundraising option, you pay a non-refundable registration fee of £30 when booking and pledge to raise a minimum amount of £100 sponsorship for our own social impact work with disadvantaged young people.
